Long Island New York

Our Squadron Meetings are held every 4th month at the 56th Fighter Group Restaurant in Farmingdale, NY.

The Long Island Sampson AFB Vets squadron was formed on May 29, 2008 at a luncheon at the 56th Fighter Group Restaurant in Farmingdale Long Island, NY with 53 vets in attendance. Six of the men were at Sampson when it was a Naval Training Center in the 1940's.

Forty six were there in the 1950's when it was known as Sampson Air Force Base and one was there in the 1960's as a park supervisor when it became Sampson State Park. Most of them did not know each other before the luncheon. All in all everyone had a great time. Many exchanged phone numbers.

Luncheon held on Thursday October 20, 2011

Well the October Luncheon of the Long Island Squadron is over. For the record we had 71 attendees. Included in that number were Army, Navy, Marines and Army Air Corps veterans.

We had two speakers attend the luncheon. The first speaker was a Major with the Civil Air Patrol. He explained the mission of their organization.

Our second speaker was a representative of the Veterans Administation. His speech was very informative with regards to the programs that we as veterans, are eligible for. He went on to tell us about the VA Hospital in Northport, Long Isaland and answered many questions.

We had several Sampson Vets attend for the first time and they were glad they did.

The restaurant, with several W W II vintage aircraft parked nearby, is the ideal location for a group such as us.

Harvey Reibel, Long Island Squadron Commander.
